On the highly anticipated Friday night face-off between Texas teams Willis and Oak Ridge, fans witnessed an exhilarating clash between two exceptional squads and top-notch prospects.
With Willis boasting a five-star quarterback, DJ Lagway, who recently committed to the Florida Gators, the game was expected to be a showdown against Oak Ridge’s defensive powerhouses, featuring the Georgia-bound five-star linebacker Justin Williams and the talented four-star defensive lineman Joseph Jonah-Ajonye.
Despite facing a formidable defense, including three first-half sacks by Williams, Lagway emerged triumphant, leading his team to a 49-35 victory over Oak Ridge.
The Wildkats’ win not only secured the regular season District 14-6A, Region II championship but also provided Lagway with an opportunity to playfully taunt Georgia fans in a tweet post-game, while celebrating his commitment to the Gators.
Lagway’s exceptional performance during his senior campaign has solidified his position as a leading quarterback prospect in the class of 2024. With an impressive 3,248 passing yards, 45 touchdowns, and a mere five interceptions, along with 609 rushing yards and nine scores, he has maintained an average of nearly 10 yards per carry.
Presently ranked as the nation’s No. 16 overall prospect and the No. 2 signal-caller in the class of 2024, Lagway’s stellar skills continue to make waves in the world of high school football.
