The Government announces the implementation of the reform to the law to regulate work on digital platforms
The Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare, Marath Baruch Bolaños López, has announced a series of measures contained in the reform initiative for the labor law that aims to regulate the activities and rights of digital platform workers. This project, which has been signed live by President Claudia Sheinbaum, and which will be sent to the Chamber of Deputies in the coming days, seeks to benefit some 658,000 workers, so that they have labor rights and legal benefits.
According to Bolaños López, the authorities and representatives of the delivery drivers, as well as companies and government institutions, have held about 30 work meetings since November 2021 and until this month of October to establish the constitutional changes. Among the changes that were announced this Wednesday, during President Sheinbaum’s morning conference, is the establishment of a transitional regime for the registration of workers in the IMSS; the right to have a housing loan, insurance against work accidents, payment of utilities, among others.
The president criticized that the companies that use these services, most of them transnational, had found a way of “not recognizing” their obligations as employers to provide the labor rights that corresponded to their workers, and that this way did not correspond to the Law. Federal Labor.
