The Chapinero Happiness Center: activities, programming and schedules

Amid criticism and questions, the Chapinero Felicidad Center has opened its doorslocated in the El Nogal neighborhood of Bogotá. It is the fifth center of its kind in the city. The 10-story-high vertical building has both a semi-Olympic swimming pool and a 3D printing laboratory or training rooms in music, arts and dance. Described as “the most inclusive place in the most exclusive neighborhood of the city” – a slogan that earned it protests on social networks – the center is open and free of charge, although some events, activities and scenarios will require prior registration.

Activities

The Chapinero Felicidad Center will have various areas, from sites that allow artistic workshops to sports facilities. It has five agoras (open spaces) distributed on the different levels of the building and which are already open to the community. It also has an audiovisual room (to broadcast films, documentaries); a music room equipped with instruments and equipment; another of plastic arts from painting to sculpture; an outdoor space designed for theater, dance and cultural performances; a library; a cafeteria; a playroom; a room for science, technology and arts projects; a semi-Olympic pool and two recreational pools; galleries; garden.

The opening of some spaces will be gradual, such as the swimming pools and the gym, which are not available at the moment. The artistic, cultural and sports programming will vary, so it is recommended Check the center’s site to stay up to date on the schedule of events and special activities.

Hours and location

During the opening of the center, last October 17, Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán said that “CEFE Chapinero is an innovative space that brings with it the promise of a more equitable, fairer and happier future. “A space that honors work and public service and reaffirms that Bogotá is our home,”

Initial opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; On Mondays it will be closed for maintenance. Sometimes some activities may extend their hours until 8:00 p.m. It is expected that the hours will be expanded according to the Bogotá 24/7 strategy so that some sports spaces operate from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The Chapinero Felicidad Center is located on a property on Carrera 10 and Calle 82.
