A 35-year-old woman, who was pregnant, died on Sunday night when her vehicle collided head-on with another that was traveling in the opposite direction. on the AP-68 highway, in La Riojaas confirmed this Monday by the Government Delegation. The 46-year-old kamikaze driver, who tested positive for alcohol and drugs, has been arrested by the Civil Guard and is waiting to be brought to justice.
The accident occurred around 9:50 p.m. at kilometer point 124.8 of the AP-68, in Navarrete, a town located about ten kilometers from Logroño. The Traffic patrols that went to the scene found three people trapped: a pregnant woman, in very serious condition, and two seriously injured men. The three were taken to the San Pedro Hospital in the capital of Rioja, where the woman died. She was a resident of Logroño and was in an advanced state of pregnancy. The doctors could not save the baby.
The driver who caused the accident had been traveling for at least 10 kilometers in the opposite direction —it is still unknown whether consciously or by mistake— and on that trip he had the opportunity to leave the road in some exit prior to the accident, according to the Government Delegation. The Civil Guard is investigating the case. The kamikaze was driving alone in his vehicle, while the deceased woman occupied the co-driver’s seat in the other car, in which the driver was also injured. A truck was also involved in the accident. The road was closed to road traffic.
