The Semifinal Showdown

The game started with Catawba (23-6) taking an early lead, but the Nighthawks quickly turned the tide. A layup from Hunter Shedenhelm gave UNG their first lead of the game. The teams continued to battle throughout the first half, with neither side leading by more than three points until UNG went on a 10-2 run to close the period. A.J. White initiated the run with a three-pointer and added a pair of free throws, giving UNG a 41-35 lead at halftime.

The second half saw Catawba trim the lead to five points, but UNG responded with a dunk from Frank Champion and a series of successful plays. This gave them their first double-digit lead of the game. Despite Catawba’s efforts, they were unable to close the gap, and UNG maintained their lead, finishing the game with a 16-point advantage.

A.J. White and Cayden Charles led the Nighthawks with 22 points each. Charles also added seven rebounds to his impressive performance. White demonstrated his shooting prowess, hitting 50% from the field (7-for-14), and contributed five assists. Frank Champion finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, and a team-high six assists. Off the bench, Giancarlo Bastianoni added 16 points and seven rebounds. UNG showcased their strength in rebounding, holding a 39-23 edge over Catawba, and dominated in the paint, outscoring Catawba 46-32.
