Turma da Mônica – Origens arrives on Globoplay this Thursday (24) promoting a journey into the past and future of the characters that have won over different generations of fans. The series will show how the toothy girl’s friendship with Cebolinha and company began. Now in old age, they meet again to celebrate the passing of a rare comet, the same one they saw together as children, 63 years ago.

To do this, the group will appear at 70 years old and also reliving the past, when the characters were only seven. That’s the purpose of the new plot created for Mônica: to deliver the secret of what it’s like to make friends and how they experienced everything for the first time. What was the first beating she gave a boy like, for example?

Everyone knows Turma da Mônica, they know that Cascão doesn’t take a shower, that Cebolinha speaks incorrectly, that Mônica is strong and so on. Seeing them in old age for the first time is the highlight of the series, which has eight episodes.

“Is it easy for Cascão to talk about this? Is it easy for Mônica to show her strength? We will show how a group is formed and what is the secret for this group to be together forever”, says Marina Maria Iório , who signed the creation of the project with Daniel Rezende.

She doesn’t give everything away right away and states that you need to watch the episodes to understand. Marina explains that the target audience is from 0 to 100 years old, as it is a project designed for the whole family.

“Children have more screen time, it’s a children’s series. The way we make the transitions, the insertions from one generation to another in the class, is very dynamic. The story is all tied together”, comments the screenwriter, who leaves escape a secret to achieve the objective:

We put on a competition. We know what children like. There is expectation until the end of this competition. Who will win, who won’t win? It’s impossible for you to start watching and not want to get to the last episode. We work for that, to have a hook, to have suspense, to be curious, to be funny.

But the intention is also to win over the children’s families; and that’s where nostalgia comes in. Time passed even for Turma da Mônica.

The characters are gray, but maintain the essence of their personalities: Louise Cardoso lives the strong Mônica; Daniel Dantas Mr Onion is ambitious; Malu Valle plays the sweet Mrs. Magali; Paulo Betti does the skilled Mr. Cascão; and Dhu Moraes brings the confident owner Milena to life.

At the meeting of her seventies friends, a spyglass falls on Mônica’s head, who loses her memory and is unable to recognize her friends. Distressed, the four decide to do everything they can to help her. They then decide to return to the Limoeiro Palace Hotel, where they met 63 years earlier.

The children’s cast includes Giovanna Urbano (Mônica), Felipe Rosa (Cebolinha), Manu Colombo (Magali), Bernardo Faria (Cascão) and Sabrina Souza (Milena).
