At 86 years of age and 64 years of career, Raul Gil gave up on retiring and stated that he will continue with his program in SBT until death. The veteran admitted that he thought about stopping working on TV, but decided against it after talking about it on Sunday with Huckin which he was honored in March this year. “The stage is my life,” he argued.

The presenter participated in the program The Night in the early hours of Wednesday (23), alongside his son Raulzinho, who directs his programs, and his granddaughter Clarinha, aged eight.

At a certain point in the interview, Danilo Gentili addressed the subject. “Are you thinking about retiring or not?” he asked. “Not me. Retire only when I die”, said Gil.

“I’ve thought about retiring, but I can’t. I was born, and the stage is my life”, he added. “But you know that we are very fit for that, right?”, Raulzinho said.

“You can’t retire. I already said it in the Luciano Huck, I was thinking about stopping. But I’m not going to stop anymore, no”, decided the communicator. “I don’t think we have to stop”, Gentili agreed.

Raulzinho said that they received many messages after the presenter’s statement backstage at Domingão. “I’m retiring in 2024. Unless they don’t let me. But I want to retire this year”, Gil had stated at the time. He had also said that the Raul Gil Program it would only remain on air until December.

“A lot of people called, saying ‘Raul, don’t stop. You can’t stop. You have to keep going’. Then we said: ‘Dad, I know you’re sad about a lot of things’… Unfortunately, we ends up being attacked”, lamented the director.

“It seems like it doesn’t exist, but ageism exists. My father is a guy to admire, because with his age, 86 years old, the energy he has, the health he has, everything he has achieved…”, valued the presenter’s son. “And sing the way I’m singing”, joked the veteran.

Raul Gil started on TV in 1960, amending a series of attractions on TV Excelsior (1960-1970) before debuting the Raul Gil Program in 1973. The attraction has already been on Recordby Tupi (1950-1980), by Headline (1983-1999), by Bandand is currently on SBT.
