Daniela Beyrutipresident of SBTrevealed that there will be no tributes to Silvio Santos (1930-2014) in the next edition of Telethonwhich will be held between the 8th and 9th of November. The director explained that the father did not like exploring the image of people who are no longer with us. “We’re not going to do something to him that he didn’t want us to do to others,” he explained.

The executive briefly touched on the subject during the charity campaign press conference this Tuesday (29). “[A gente quer] remove this expectation from people, especially because he was already honored in those days [o SBT chegou a derrubar toda a programação após a partida de seu fundador]”, he began.

“If he knew how beloved he was to Brazil, it would be a wonderful thing. But we want to continue with Telethon the way we did [meu pai] always wanted. With the same dedication and seriousness, which is already a tribute”, he added.

According to Daniela, the artists invited to the solidarity marathon are free to pay –personal– tributes to Silvio Santos:

Whoever wants to pay homage will pay homage. There will be his videos, because there’s no way not to have them. They are placing a burden on Xuxa, from what I read, absurd. ‘Xuxa will be responsible for honoring Silvio’, no. I think it’s much less than that. What we want is to keep Telethon alive, full of life, full of joy, as it did in these 26 years

“Maintaining the Teleton, and we will for many, many years, God willing, is already a tribute. And the Brazilian contributing is one too. It’s the cause he embraced”, he continued.

The professional also revealed conversations with her father behind the scenes about SBT’s plans to have its own charity campaign:

He was very afraid, I remember conversations I had with him at the table, about why SBT didn’t do more for people. His concern is: ‘How am I going to associate myself with something that I’m not sure is 100% trustworthy? The Brazilian believes and likes me a lot. If I say to bet on something that suddenly becomes a scandal, I will be putting the trust he has in me at stake.’
