How can you not love Zefa Leonel? A woman who speaks her mind to anyone’s face, who commands her family with a strong hand and who has her weaknesses and mistakes, like any human being. The protagonist of No Rancho Fundo ends its journey on the 1st with an ending that promises to be surprising. In an exclusive interview with TV Newsthe actress Andrea Beltrão gets excited when talking about the character’s outcome and takes stock of the northeastern woman who conquered Brazil.

“Zefa’s ending will be radical, transgressive, pure courage. Only a woman like her would be capable of so much”, warns the interpreter, without spoiling what the public will actually see in the last chapters of the saga written by Mario Teixeira.

Andrea states that from the beginning of the soap opera she understood how Zefa’s head worked. There was never any mystery behind the work she did. What enchanted her most was always the simplicity of the character, a family mother, who works and undertakes different shifts to take care of her children and her husband.

“Because she presented herself as crystal clear, a rough diamond, as is her nature. Zefa Leonel is one of the great characters I played. She is already in my emotional gallery, one of my best memories”, reveals the actress, who continues:

Zefa Leonel is a wise character. Mario Teixeira, who wrote the novel, is a refined author, but at the same time, very popular, who brings to his characters the air of great classic stories, from the picaresque to biblical stories. Characters capable of great evil who face characters full of kindness and fearless.

Andrea does not agree when asked about Zefa being a character outside of what she has been doing on TV.

“I disagree, because I believe that the other characters I played on TV were also true and honest, like Rebeca from Um Lugar ao Sol [2021]; or Sueli from Slaps & Kisses [2011-2015]; or even Marilda de The Big Family [2001-2014]. They were in other environments, they were richer, or more beautiful (maybe?), they were located in an urban context”, points out the actress.

Why is Zefa special?

For the interpreter, righteousness and honesty –characteristics of Zefa Leonel– can be anywhere. “I’ve been very lucky with the women I’ve played. But it’s also great to play someone who’s no good, who’s worthless, an irredeemable bastard, because it’s provocative and makes us think,” he adds.

Finally, Andrea highlights what moved her most while working on No Rancho Fundo. “Zefa Leonel’s words, her attitudes, her way of showing affection, indignation, her ability to recognize mistakes, and never give up her love for her children and the land in which she was born. That messed with me. And that’s what I believe,” he declares.

Will Zefa Leonel return in another soap opera or take on a life of her own in another project from Globo? “Ah. Only God knows that. Oops, I mean, only Mario Teixeira knows”, jokes the actress.

Recordings for the soap opera ended last Saturday (19). No Rancho Fundo will show its last chapter on the 1stwith re-presentation on the 2nd.
