No Rancho Fundo is the first soap opera in his career. Igor Fortunato. The 31-year-old actor is from Mossoró, in Rio Grande do Norte, and became the pride of the city when he played Zé Beltino in the Globo serial. The artist says that, when he returned to Mossoró during a break from recording, he experienced a real “slump”.

Fortunato was discovered when he was acting, in Rio de Janeiro, in the play A Invenção do Nordeste. A Globo casting producer watched the show and invited him to audition, which he passed.

Since then, the actor has lived a new reality in his first experience as a soap opera actor. “The main challenge was the theatrical tone we used to build Zé Beltino at the beginning. During the casting preparation, we opted for a more theatrical approach to facilitate access to the character. Afterwards, the big challenge was to make this theatrical tone believable within the context of the novel, to make so much innocence and purity in such a brutish man realistic”, he explains, in an interview with TV News.

Zé Beltino is a figure full of oppositions: he is extremely brutish, but at the same time very sweet and delicate. Making this palpable and believable, so that the public believes that someone like this could exist, was my biggest challenge.

The actor’s efforts have paid off. Zé Beltino was a character welcomed by the public, who felt sorry for his extreme naivety and the character’s purity. And the actor felt the affection of viewers when he returned to his hometown.

“The response from the public has been incredible. People have welcomed Zé Beltino and, consequently, welcomed me in a very affectionate way. I receive many messages of affection, really special messages. I felt this impact even more when I returned to Rio Grande do Norte, in one of the breaks in the soap opera”, he says.

“In Mossoró, I noticed how people were embracing Zé Beltino and me too. It turned into a real mess! Many people came to talk to me, hug me, and on social media there has also been a flood of positive comments. They talk about how well I’m playing the character, and that makes me very happy.“

“As an actor, we work to communicate with the public, it’s something I deeply believe in. It’s vital to care about who we’re talking to, and knowing that I managed to connect with these people gives me a lot of peace of mind and a feeling of mission accomplished “, concludes Igor Fortunato.
