A year and a half after its release, the miniseries Treta received a second season. THE Netflix announced this Tuesday (22) that it renewed production for a new batch of episodes. Fans of the first year, however, won’t continue to follow Amy (Ali Wong) and Danny’s fights (Steven Yeun), given that Emmy award-winning actors they will not return.

Now, Treta will have the actors as protagonists Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight), Carey Mulligan (O Grande Gatsby), Charles Melton (Riverdale) and Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla). There will be eight 30-minute episodes, with no premiere date yet.

According to Netflix, the new season will exchange the traffic fight for another type of drama. A young couple (Melton and Cailee) will witness a fight between their boss (Isaac) and his wife (Carey), triggering a game of strategy of favors and coercion in the elitist world of a country club and its billionaire owner from South Korea. (whose interpreter was not revealed).

Ali Wong and Steven Yeun will return as executive producers, along with creator and showrunner Lee Sung Jin and director Jake Schreier — who had helmed six of the ten chapters in the first year.

Treta did very well both in Emmy as in Golden Globe. In the second prize, he won all three categories in which he competed. In the first, it won best limited series, actor, actress, direction and screenplay — it lost only supporting actor (Joseph Lee and Young Mazino were nominated) and supporting actress (Maria Bello represented the production).

The miniseries was also awarded at important ceremonies, such as the Critics’ Choice Television Awards, the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the Producers Guild of America Awards and the Independent Spirit Awards, in addition to smaller trophies.

The second season may continue to compete as a limited series at the Emmys and Golden Globes, as the cast change implies a new story, with no connection to the previous one. It’s a rule that applies to other anthologies, like American Horror StoryFeud e True Detective.
