Is Venom 3 good? End of the trilogy about the anti-hero succeeds in not taking himself seriously · TV News

Amid the superhero fatigue that has gripped audiences in recent years, Venom: The Last Round arrives in cinemas this Thursday (24) with a certain freshness. The end of the trilogy starring Tom Hardy It’s not a masterpiece (far from it!), but it hits the nail on the head by not taking itself as seriously as the “official” productions of the MCU. Marvel). The antihero knows his place in the hierarchy of superpowers and doesn’t try to go beyond that.

Not that the threat of the third film is small: the villain of the moment, Knull (voice and motion capture by Andy Serkis), wants to destroy the planet — and, why not, the entire multiverse. But not even this monumental danger gives the impression that an interstellar war is coming at the climax of the narrative.

The film begins in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Return Home (2021), with Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) in a bar in Mexico after a trip through the Multiverse. He is framed for the murder of Detective Mulligan (Stephen Graham) and decides that the only way to clear his act is to go to New York and blackmail a judge. Thus, the journalist and Venom (voice of Hardy) begin a road trip to cross the continent from coast to coast.

But, halfway through, the human and the symbiote who share the same body begin to be hunted by a demonic creature — who needs the duo to free Knull from his interdimensional prison. The explanation takes up events from the other two films, but has little influence on the narrative itself. Just know that monsters are after Venom — and that, when he transforms completely, he becomes an easier target.

While trying to escape certain death, Brock and Venom encounter a hippie family looking for evidence of alien life (Rhys Ifans and Alanna Ubach play the parents), the US army (centered on the soldier played by Chiwetel Ejiofor) and with scientists who research symbiotes (led by the doctor played by Juno Temple).

But the highlight of the third Venom film continues to be Tom Hardy — who also wrote the original idea together with director Kelly Marcel. The Brit had already found the right tone for his two characters in the previous chapters and, now, lies back and forth in the comical interactions between the human and his “inner monster”.

The humor comes both from the bizarre situations the protagonists find themselves in and from the jokes themselves — the former work infinitely better than the latter — and the action scenes that occur from time to time during the duo’s journey to New York. are enough to capture the public’s attention. The thread of story that ties everything together culminates in an epic battle, for no fan to fault.

Announced as the end of the trilogy, The Last Round fulfills its role of closing a cycle for Venom, Eddie Brock and Tom Hardy — who has already made it clear that he wouldn’t mind returning to the role later on. But, at a time when the public no longer has so much patience for superheroes, being able to understand that it’s time to stop could be your best decision.
