The samba player Dudu Nobre will experience a very different professional challenge: that of series creator. THE Globo closed a partnership with producers Mixer and Fremantle to produce Crime Inc, a police drama that will address the relationship between the mafia and organized crime in Rio de Janeiro. The musician developed the project in partnership with director Caio Cobra, from Intervenção: É Proibido Morrer (2021).
It was during the film, in fact, that the first drafts of Crime Inc took place. “In 2019, I sat down with the dear Dudu Nobre to talk about the soundtrack for a film I was making. Talk goes, talk comes, and the idea of a mafia series set in Rio de Janeiro took shape”, recalled Cobra in his Instagram.
“When we arrived at a good script, I spoke with my brother Michel Tikhomiroff, who embraced the project together with the production company Mixer. A few years go by and here we are, a production GloboplayMixer and Fremantle. The road is still long, but the team is brave!”, valued the filmmaker.
Crime Inc is created by Dudu Nobre and Caio Cobra, but will have scripts by Marcos Osorio Vidal (from Os Simuladores) and Willy Van Broock (from Santa Evita). The series will tell the story of Vagner and his father, Marquinhos, one of the leaders of the Rio mafia.
With fights between brothers and disputes over succession in the world of organized crime, Vagner will do everything to become the first black leader of the mafia in Rio de Janeiro after his father’s retirement.
“We are very happy with this first agreement between Globo and Fremantle, which will certainly open doors to new opportunities. When we close co-productions, we look for stories with elements that speak to different audiences and cultures, and we believe in the potential that Crime Inc has to engage audiences in Brazil and around the world”, said Manuel Belmar, director of Finance, Legal, Infrastructure, Digital Products and Paid Channels at Globo, in a press release.
“We were very excited about this series. It is a fiction inspired by real events, full of conflicts and twists, with a strong cinematic narrative. Fremantle and Globo, together with Mixer Films, will produce a series that will leave the public anxious” , added João Daniel Tikhomiroff, president of Mixer Films.
The partnership was announced this Wednesday (23), at the Mipcom fair, which takes place in Paris during the week. Under the agreement, Globo will have exclusive rights to show the series in Brazil, while Fremantle will be responsible for selling the attraction to foreign markets.
It is a similar strategy to that adopted in the Disciplina series, created by Konrad Dantas, KondZilla, and Felipe Braga. In this case, Globo has control in Brazilian territory, while the German Beta Film will carry out global marketing.
