The body of a 25-year-old woman was found inside a vehicle submerged in the Caxambu River, late this Friday afternoon, the 25th, in Jundiaí, in the interior of São Paulo. According to the Fire Department, the victim is Mayara Santos Oliveira, who had been missing since the storm that hit the city the night before. The body was recognized by family members. Mayara was married and left behind a 4-month-old baby.
With this, there are already five fatalities from the storm that hit the state of São Paulo on the night of Thursday, 24th. Two other people are missing.
According to the family, Mayara disappeared when she was returning home, in Jardim Pacaembu, in her Ford Ka car, after giving a ride to a friend who lives in the Eloy Chaves neighborhood. On the way, she was surprised by the storm. When she didn’t get home, her husband called the police.
This Friday, firefighters rescued the body of Jair Samuel da Silva Oliveira Marques, 22 years old, who disappeared during the flood that hit Campinas, on Thursday night. Jair was in a manhole when he was caught in a strong flood. The body was found a few meters from the site.
Another resident of Campinas, Sara Gabrielli de Souza, aged 18, remains missing. She was getting out of the car when she was surprised by the flood. Sara even asked her mother for help on her cell phone, but was dragged away. The searches were resumed this Saturday morning, the 26th, in the Piçarrão stream, where she was allegedly dragged.
Firefighters from Jandira, in Greater São Paulo, restarted the search for motorcycle courier Weverton da Silva, 38, who disappeared after falling into a stream, during the storm that hit the city. The Itapevi Fire Department assists in the search.
Three other people died in collapses resulting from the storm and gusts of wind. In Itapira, in the northern region of the state, operator Rodrigo Aparecido de Sousa Escoton, 37 years old, had his car crushed by a leafy tree that collapsed on a local highway, on the morning of Friday, 25th. survived.
In Itapeva, in the southwest of São Paulo, Adriana Vian Flores Almeida, 47 years old, was hit by a falling wall during the storm, on Thursday night. According to the city hall, the wall is from a project that was blocked. The Civil Police are investigating the accident.
In Itu, in the Sorocaba region, Jaqueline Rodrigues Machado, 27 years old, died after her car was hit by the standard pole of a commercial establishment that fell in the wind. He was taken to the hospital by his father, who was driving the car, but he did not survive. The accident is being investigated by the police.
