The second round of the 2024 municipal elections takes place in 51 municipalities this Sunday, the 27th. Polling stations will be open from 8am to 5pm, Brasília time.
Voters in Campo Grande, Cuiabá, Porto Velho and Manaus should pay attention to the voting closing time, as they are in regions with a different time zone from Brasília. In these cities, voting locations will be open from 7am to 4pm local time, one hour before Federal District time.
Counting of the 2024 elections
More than 30 million voters from 51 municipalities in Brazil go to the polls this Sunday, the 27th, to choose who will occupy the position of mayor and vice-mayor of their cities between 2025 and 2028. The second round is held in locations with more than 200 thousand voters, in which the candidate did not receive more than half of the votes on October 6th.
Can anyone who didn’t vote in the first round vote in the second?
Voters who are eligible to vote and who did not attend the first round of municipal elections can participate in the second round of the election.
The Electoral Court considers each voting round to be an independent election for the purpose of voter attendance at the electronic ballot box.
If you participated in the first day of voting, you will go to this same location this Sunday.
What happens if the voter doesn’t vote?
Voters who did not justify their absence from the polls in the first round have up to 60 days after voting to do so without being fined. The value of the penalty varies from 3 to 10% of the minimum wage in the region, imposed by the competent court.
Where and how to justify voting in the second round
The justification must be presented, preferably, via e-Título, the Electoral Court application. On election day, it is also possible to print the Electoral Justification Request form (PDF format) and deliver it completed to the vote or justification reception desks set up by the regional electoral courts and electoral registry offices.
