Two new ferries will operate on the Salvador-Itaparica crossing

The Ferry-Boat System will soon receive two more new vessels to transport passengers and vehicles between the municipalities of Salvador and Itaparica. The bidding notice for the acquisition of new ferries will be published in the Official State Gazette (DOE) this Saturday (26).
The opening of proposals from interested companies is scheduled for November 26th this year. With the conclusion of the bidding process, the vessels should begin operating at the beginning of the first half of 2025.
The vessels that will be acquired to integrate the Public Waterway Transport System for Passengers, Cargo and Vehicles, on the Salvador-Itaparica crossing, must have a minimum capacity of 1,200 passengers and 160 vehicles.
Today, the Ferry-Boat System has seven ferries available that make the sea crossing between the São Joaquim Maritime Terminal, in Cidade Baixa, in Salvador, and the Bom Despacho Maritime Terminal, on Itaparica Island.
From Monday to Friday, departures take place from 5am to 11:30pm, and on weekends and holidays, from 6am to 11:30pm. The trip duration is approximately 1 hour.
