Tim Burton surprised fans by revealing that he doesn’t access social media very often, explaining that the act makes him “quite depressed”. The filmmaker defined himself as a “technophobe”, someone with an aversion to the use of technology.

The statement came during an interview with BBC News. “It scared me because I started going into a black hole [ao acessar a internet]. So I try to avoid it, because it doesn’t make me feel good. I get depressed very quickly, maybe faster than other people. But it doesn’t take long for me to start clicking and short-circuiting,” he explained.

The film director also cited advances in artificial intelligence, mentioning a trend that went viral. In the videos, users used AI to transform themselves and Disney characters in a “Tim Burton style.”

“It was quite disturbing: intellectually and emotionally disturbing. It felt like my soul had been taken from me,” he said.
