A ten-story building collapsed in Villa Gesell, province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, during the early hours of this Tuesday (29). Firefighters and police are at the scene looking for survivors in the rubble and initial information indicates that 79 people are missing. The information is from the newspaper La Nación.

The accident happened at the Apart Hotel Dubrovnik. The property is 38 years old. “The building had an approved plan and construction license for an elevator in front of the property. What fell was the bottom, which is a tower with around ten floors”, said the municipal official. The collapse occurred around 00:30.

Part of the collapse also affected a neighboring building. Some construction workers managed to run before the collapse. “Approximately 80% of the building collapsed,” said the head of the operation, Hugo Piriz.

The searches will continue throughout the day.
