After Léo Gomes in 2022, another Vitória player joined the fans to support the club from the stands. Even though he was not trained in the youth teams of the Bahian team, defender and captain Wagner Leonardo reinforced his identification with the red and black team by spending part of the first half among one of Leão’s organized fans. In an interview after the end of the match against Fluminense, the athlete spoke about the moment.

“All week the fans campaigned for me to be with them in the stands. We know that in our bad moments, they don’t come here to break cars. Of course there’s a charge, but they don’t resort to violence. They’re always at us. supporting them in bad times. And at a time like this, I was able to respond to their request to live in this environment a little. It’s a totally different situation. next few weeks to be able to achieve our objective, which is to be able to leave Vitória in the best possible place in the championship”, he explained.

“It was only at the beginning of the match, I stayed for about 10, 15 minutes of the first half [junto à torcida]. I would have liked to celebrate the first penalty, it would have been magical to be able to celebrate with them if I had given the first penalty, but it’s good. It was 10, 15 minutes and then I came here to watch in the box and go back to my reality, which is being here with the people, but it was a unique moment that I will never forget”, he added.

Off the field, Wagner saw Leão take the lead with a goal from fellow defender Neris and, at the end of the match, Alerrandro broke the tie with a penalty goal. Vitória’s captain made a point of mentioning his teammates and congratulating them on their performance. “I have to congratulate what the team did today on the field. We really needed this victory. They [Neris e Alerrandro] He’s been looking for that goal. Very happy, he [Neris] deserved that goal. Our center forward also scored the goal from the penalty spot, he didn’t escape his responsibility, I just have to congratulate the team”, he said.

“The message is for ourselves, we know our capacity, we know what we can produce. So, it’s a victory for us, for our fans, for those who are here in our daily lives and we is alive in the championship. We know our strength at Barradão. Now we don’t want to be dazzled, we haven’t achieved anything yet and not everything is lost, but we are on the right path to achieve the goals we have set here internally”, he concluded.

With the suspension for the third yellow card fulfilled, coach Thiago Carpini will be able to count on Wagner Leonardo again for the direct confrontation against Athletico-PR, rivals in the next round. The clash against Furacão takes place next Sunday (2), starting at 6:30 pm, at the Ligga Arena.
