Actress Susana Vieira arrives in Salvador on the 8th, 9th and 10th of November to present the play “Shirley Valentine”, closing the 24th Edition of the Brazilian Theater Catalog. The show, which has filled audiences wherever it goes, is a new production of a world classic and features Susana in the role of a woman in search of new beginnings and self-discovery. The performances will take place at Teatro Isba Faresi, and tickets are now on sale at Sympla.
The comedy tells the story of Shirley, a housewife who lives a disguised loneliness in the middle of her family routine. Married and mother of two children, she shares with the public her frustrations, dreams and desire to find the young woman full of life she once was. In an exciting and fun journey, the character decides to take a trip to Greece without informing her controlling husband, in search of freedom and her own essence.
Adapted by Miguel Falabella, the Brazilian version of “Shirley Valentine” highlights, with great humor and lightness, the dilemmas of so many women who find themselves trapped in a life without great prospects. The production starring Susana Vieira has already been to several cities in Brazil, including acclaimed seasons in São Paulo, Porto Alegre and Goiânia, always with sold out sessions.
The play is a reinterpretation of a text by British author Willy Russell, which premiered in London in 1986, winning awards such as the Laurence Olivier Awards and also receiving a film version nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe.
