A 45-year-old man, identified as Edson Fernando Crippa, died after injuring several people with gunshots in Novo Hamburgoin the Vale dos Sinos region, in Rio Grande do Sul. The attack began around 11pm on Tuesday, the 22nd, at a residence on Rua Adolfo Jaeger, in the Ouro Branco neighborhood.

The suspect’s father, Eugenio Crippa, 74, Edson Fernando’s brother, Everton Crippa, 49, and a military police officer, Éverton Kirsch Júnior, 31, are among the dead. There are still at least nine injured.

Throughout the morning, the Military Brigade laid siege to the place where Crippa kept his parents in private prison and resisted arrest. Upon noticing the presence of the police, Crippa opened fire on the police garrison, starting the confrontation.

Neighbors’ homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure for negotiations. According to the Military Brigade (BM), the suspect had shot down two drones that were being used during the police action.

According to the police, the man reacted violently to the police approach, opening fire on the officers. The team had been called to verify a report that an elderly couple was being held in private prison in their own home.
