Artist was murdered inside a car in southern Bahia

The death of João Rebello, a former TV Globo actor, generated repercussions after the artist was shot several times in his own car in Trancoso, in the south of Bahia. Shortly after the death, rumors began to circulate that the victim was involved in drug trafficking, which was denied by family, friends and the police.

João was the nephew of director Jorge Fernando, who died in 2019, and started acting in TV Globo soap operas when he was still a child. He was the son of actress and director Maria Rebello. In a publication made in September, the director said that João and his other daughter, actress Maria Carol Rebello, had moved to live in Bahia. ‘My loves, my puppies went to live in Baêa, I miss you here, but I know that you are protected by Axé da Bahia’, he wrote.

One of the most notable roles in his career was in the soap opera Bebê a Bordo (1988). He also stood out in productions such as Vamp (1991), Deus nos Acuda (1992) and Cambalacho (1986). His last appearances on TV Globo were in the soap opera “Zazá”, in 1997. He participated in Globo’s ‘Divertics’ in 2013.

After leaving his acting career, João worked as DJ Vunje, in Trancoso.

João was in a car when two men on a motorcycle approached and shot him at close range. He died at the scene. The crime took place last Thursday night (24), in Trancoso, district of Porto Seguro, in the Far South of Bahia.

The Civil Police of Bahia confirmed that investigations indicate that former child actor João Rebello had been killed by mistake, which points to the impossibility of any involvement of the victim in criminal activities. The victim’s mother said that her son “went to the market and was confused by two criminals”.

The 3rd Territorial Police Station of Trancoso continues to investigate João’s death. According to the corporation, all legal measures are being adopted. Hearings and investigations are underway and there are teams in the field looking for images that can help in investigating the case.

The identity of the suspects was not disclosed, but the Civil Police confirmed that two men were being sought for the execution. There is also an indication of responsibility for the murder. Security camera footage shows the duo ambushing the victim, and one of them shooting at the artist.
