The Salvador Capital Afro Festival will take place on the 6th, 7th and 8th of November, bringing together artists, curators, players and influencers from the black economy. The objective of the free event, which is in its third edition, is to promote Afrofuturism, bringing together black talents in the world of business and creativity.
The event, which has “Alafia – culture and prosperity” as its main theme, will take place in the Quarteirão das Artes, in the Historic Center of Salvador. There, it will be divided between Pátio Yá Nassou, Barroquinha, Sala Harildo Deda, Sala Nelson Maleiro and Café Nilda Spencer.
Currently, the festival takes place in a reduced version, with panels, mentoring, workshops, a business festival and showcases. At the event, training and opportunities are offered to black entrepreneurs and artists, to promote diversity in the Salvador market.
In addition to Afrofuturism, the event also focuses on Afrotourism and Afroentrepreneurship, present especially at the Afrobiz Fair, with support from the British Council, a UK cultural institute active in Brazil.
The main focus of the sectors dealing with business at the festival will be music, with the participation of artists already defined and coming from the Board of the Secretariat of Culture and Tourism (Dicult) and the Boca de Brasa project. The Showcase, after the completion of the business rounds, will be opened for new artists from Salvador to show their work.
The prospect is that the festival will generate more than one million businesses, generating around 100 jobs. “The Salvador Capital Afro Festival’s mission is to foster creativity, connect artists and professionals, in addition to contributing to social transformation through the black creative economy,” stated Salvador City Hall.
FSCA participants will also be able to visit the YouTube event “Future Insiders”, which will take place from November 5th to 7th at Teatro Gregório de Mattos and Barroquinha. There, content creators will be able to exchange experiences and create bridges for future work.
