Targets are part of a criminal organization specializing in data invasion

Civil police officers from the Robbery and Theft Police Station (DRF) in Rio de Janeiro carried out, this Tuesday (29), an operation to dismantle a bank fraud scheme. According to the police, the targets are members of a criminal organization highly specialized in data invasion, alteration of registration information and theft of values ​​directly from Banco do Brasil. The agents seek to execute six search and seizure warrants, in the capital, Baixada Fluminense and the state of Mato Grosso.

According to investigations, the loss caused by the group would be more than R$40 million. The investigations carried out by the DRF revealed that the gang had the direct collaboration of a manager of the financial institution, based in Mato Grosso, an employee in the information technology area and outsourced workers from the bank.

“These collaborators facilitated the insertion of malicious scripts into systems, allowing criminals to remotely access the institution’s computers and gain control over confidential information. With this access, those involved carried out fraudulent banking transactions on behalf of customers, registered equipment, changed registration data and modified biometric data”, says the police.

Banco do Brasil reported that the investigations began with an internal investigation, which detected irregularities, which were communicated to the police authorities.

“BB, within its scope of action, collaborates with the authorities in investigating fraud with the transfer of information and subsidies; and has established processes for investigating and analyzing reports of irregularities involving the conduct of employees. Internal regulations provide for administrative solutions that can be applied, ranging from warning and suspension to removal from office and dismissal”, says the note.
