Mancha Alvi Verde, Palmeiras’ main organized fan base, denied in an official note its participation in the ambush against a bus belonging to Cruzeiro’s Máfia Azul fans, at around 5am this Sunday (27). The attack caused the death of Cruzeiro native José Victor de Miranda, aged 30, and left 20 injured.

The miners were attacked by São Paulo residents on Rodovia Fernão Dias, in Mairiporã, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, when they were returning from Curitiba, where Cruzeiro lost to Athletico Paranaense 3-0 in the Brazilian Championship on Saturday (26). Meanwhile, Palmeiras faced Fortaleza, at Allianz Parque, in the capital of São Paulo, and drew 2-2.

The document was released by Palmeiras fans on social media this Monday morning and denies the organization’s participation. “We deeply regret this sad event and express our solidarity and show our dismay to the victim’s family, vehemently repudiating such acts of violence. We want to make it clear from now on that Mancha Alvi Verde did not organize, participate or encourage any action related to this incident . With more than 45,000 members, our fans cannot be held responsible for isolated actions of around 50 fans, who disrespect the principles of respect and peace that we promote and defend”, says the note.

“Mancha Alvi Verde repudiates any and all forms of violence and reaffirms its commitment to security and peaceful coexistence among fans. We are available to the authorities to fully collaborate with the investigations, helping to identify and punish those responsible for this further fateful and regrettable episode that occurred in the early hours of this Sunday”, completes the text.

According to videos circulating on social media from Palmeiras fans, the ambush would have been in retaliation for an attack made by Cruzeirenses on Alviverdes in 2022.

The body of the dead Cruzeiro fan, João Victor de Miranda, is expected to arrive in Sete Lagoas, a municipality in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, this Monday, where he will be laid to rest and buried. The necroscopic report, which will identify the real cause of the fan’s death, has not yet been finalized.

The Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco) continues, this Monday (28), seeking to identify members of Mancha Alvi Verde who would have participated in the attack on the Mafia Azul bus, with Cruzeiro fans. The São Paulo Civil Police assesses the possibility of fans being held accountable for the crimes of homicide, fire, criminal association and bodily harm.

“The death and attacks on Cruzeiro fans in SP are unacceptable. We are working with the MPSP to identify the murderers and punish them. Football is joy. These fake fans are criminals and do not represent the Palmeiras fans, of so much glory” , published Jarbas Soares, Attorney General of Justice of Minas Gerais and President of the National Council of the Public Ministry, on his official account on X, formerly Twitter.

Gaeco’s entry into the case occurred after the determination of the São Paulo Attorney General, Paulo Sérgio de Oliveira e Costa. The judge considered, in a note, that “some organized fans act as true criminal factions, justifying Gaeco’s intervention”.

“The episode is unacceptable and represents a serious affront to public security and peaceful coexistence in our society. In the name of the principle of transparency, the Public Ministry of São Paulo highlights its firm commitment to offering the appropriate response to the scenes of savagery recorded” .

The death and attacks on @Cruzeiro fans in SP are unacceptable. We are working with @mpsp_oficial to identify the murderers and punish them. Football is joy. These fake fans are criminals and do not represent the fans of @Palmeiras, with so many glories.
