The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) issued a risk warning for the use of 12 brands of olive oil that, according to the ministry, do not meet quality standards and are therefore considered unfit for consumption.
The 12 brands were disqualified for fraud, after tests carried out at the Federal Agricultural Defense Laboratory detected the presence of other, unidentified vegetable oils in the product’s composition.
The twelve brands disqualified for defrauding their products are Grego Santorini; La Ventosa; Alonso; D’Oliveira Farms; Olivas Del Tango; Vila Real; Quinta de Aveiro; Vincenzo; Don Alejandro; Almazara; Oliveiras and Garcia Torres Escarpments.
Some of the companies responsible for these brands in Brazil have their CNPJ suspended or removed by the Federal Revenue Service, which, according to Mapa, reinforces the suspicion of fraud.
“Consumers who purchased these brands must stop using them immediately and seek a replacement, as provided for in the Consumer Protection Code. Reports about the sale of fraudulent products can be made through the official Fala.BR channel, indicating the place of purchase.
The sale of these products constitutes a serious offense and establishments that continue to sell them may be held responsible.
Agência Brasil is available to the legal representatives of the 12 brands mentioned so that, if interested, they can publish their statements.
