The president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), minister Cármen Lúcia, invited voters to go to the polls next Sunday (27), the date of the second round of municipal elections.
Voters from 15 capitals and 36 municipalities return to the polls to elect the mayors running for office. 33.9 million voters are eligible to vote. There is no second round to compete for the position of councilor.
When calling on voters to vote, Cármen Lúcia said that voting is a blessing of democracy. “The Electoral Court invites voters to go to the polls. Voting is a democratic blessing. In the name of those who came before us and who fought for us to have this fundamental right to vote, in the name of those who come after us, who need to have a democratic State, a democratic society in which voting is a gesture of free participation”, he stated.
The minister also highlighted that anyone who did not vote in the first round can vote in the second.
“If you [eleitor] didn’t vote in the first round, it doesn’t matter. You can show up with a voter registration card or another document with a photo to exercise your right, which is also a civic duty towards Brazilian society”, he added.
Justification
Voters who are unable to attend the election must justify their absence from voting. Just as happened in the first round, there is no possibility of voting in transit in the second.
On election day, citizens can justify their absence through the Electoral Court’s E-title application or through physical points set up by regional electoral courts (TREs) on election day.
The app can be downloaded for free from Apple and Android online stores until Saturday (26), the day before the election.
