The former head of the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro Rivaldo Barbosa will give virtual testimony this Thursday (24), at 1 pm, to the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Rivaldo, who is imprisoned in the federal prison in Mossoró (RN), is a defendant in the criminal action that deals with the murder of councilor Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, which occurred in 2018, in Rio de Janeiro.

The testimony was marked by judge Airton Vieira, assistant to Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur who presides over the criminal case opened against the defendants accused of acting as masterminds of the crime. This week, all defendants will be heard in the process.

This Wednesday (23), the testimony of the counselor at the Rio de Janeiro Court of Auditors (TCE-RJ) Domingos Brazão was completed. Yesterday, at the beginning of his testimony, he denied knowing former police officer Ronnie Lessa, the confessed defendant in the shooting of the councilor. According to him, the brothers Brazão and Rivaldo Barbosa were the ones in charge.

On Monday, federal deputy Chiquinho Brazão (no party-RJ), Domingos’ brother, also denied knowing Lessa personally.

In addition to Rivaldo Barbosa and the Brazão brothers, Military Police Major Ronald Paulo de Alves Pereira is also a defendant in Marielle’s murder.

They are all responsible for the crimes of homicide and criminal organization and are arrested by order of Alexandre de Moraes.

According to the investigation carried out by the Federal Police, Marielle’s murder is related to the parliamentarian’s opposition to the interests of the political group led by the Brazão brothers, who are linked to land issues in areas controlled by militias in Rio.

The defendants’ defense denies the accusations.
