Marcus D’Almeida from Rio won the bronze medal in the grand final of the Archery World Cup, which brought together the eight best athletes on the planet on Sunday (20) in Tlaxcala (Mexico). Last year’s champion, D’Almeida had also won silver in the World Cup at the beginning of his career, in 2014. South Koreans Kim Woojlin and Lee Work Seok went to the final, and took gold and silver, respectively. Woojlin, who eliminated D’Almeida in the round of 16 of the Paris Games, beat compatriot Seok, Olympic bronze medalist in Paris, 7-3.

“It’s very difficult to reach the final, and even more challenging to be on the podium two years in a row. The gold didn’t come, but I did my best, within what my body could handle and what my mind allowed. After Paris, I needed a lot of support to keep me firm and focused on the objective of leaving here with a medal”, revealed the Brazilian after the achievement, on social media.

The World Cup final began at the quarter-final stage. In the first duel, Marcus D’Almeida easily beat Spaniard Andrés Temiño 6-2. Afterwards, the Brazilian fell in the semi-final against South Korean Seok 6-4. Then, in the dispute for bronze, D’Almeida got the better of over Mexican Matias Grande, 6 to 2.
