Manchester United continued their ordeal this Thursday, in the Europa League. After opening the scoreboard, coach Erik ten Hag’s team wavered again and had to suffer a 1-1 draw with Fenerbahçe, in Istanbul. It was the English team’s third draw in three rounds in the competition.
With the result, United are getting more complicated in the table. With three points, the red team occupies 20th place in the standings. Fenerbahçe reached five points (one win and two draws so far).
Portuguese coach José Mourinho ended up stealing the show on the edge of the field. He complained to the referee about not awarding a penalty to Osayi-Samuel and ended up receiving a red card.
In the game, after initial pressure from the home team, the visitors opened the scoring in the 14th minute. Garnacho escaped to the left and served Zirkzee. He assisted Eriksen to shoot from the edge of the box: 1-0.
From then on, the pressure from the Turks increased and Onana performed a miracle in the 36th minute to keep United ahead. En-Nesyri headed twice in a row, but stopped at the rival goalkeeper.
After putting so much pressure on, Fenerbahçe found the equalizer after half-time. At Saint-Maximin’s cross, En-Nesyri, with a header, delighted the local fans: 1-1, after three minutes. The pressure remained, the Turkish team went all out, but did not have the competence to turn the draw into victory.
LAZIO WINS ONE MORE AND LEADS
Lazio claimed another victim this Thursday in their commitment to the tournament. Coach Marco Baroni’s team beat Twente 2-0 in Enschede, in the Netherlands, and reached nine points in the standings. The Italians have the same score as Tottenham, who also won in the round (they scored 1-0 at AZ Alkmaar) and Anderlecht, who beat Ludogorets.
The first goal of the game came in the first half. Spanish striker Pedro Rodriguez showed opportunism to seize the chance and find the net. Towards the end of the match, Gustav Isaksen secured Lazio’s 2-0 victory.
Twente is experiencing the opposite situation. Still unable to win the tournament, the Dutch team remains with just two points in the competition.
