The President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, will sign next Friday, the 25th, the R$ 167 billion agreement to repair damages resulting from the collapse of the Fundão dam, in Mariana (MG), in 2015. The act comes after a series of meetings between the head of the Executive and the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, and other heads of departments in recent weeks.
The information was confirmed by the Social Communication Secretariat (Secom) to Broadcast, Grupo Estadão’s real-time news system.
The Broadcast showed on Monday, 21, that the creation of a new fund administered by the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) and an income transfer program for fishermen and farmers affected by the tragedy is planned.
Among other points, investments are also planned in the duplication of two highways (BR-262 and BR-356) that cross the States of Espírito Santo.
The trial in London over Mariana’s tragedy began this week. Of the total foreseen in the agreement that will be signed on Friday, R$100 billion will be paid over a period of 20 years.
In addition to new resources, the agreement provides for payments already made by companies. The amounts will be disbursed by the mining companies Vale, BHP and Samarco.
