President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) spoke this Monday (21) about the accident he suffered in the bathroom of the Palácio da Alvorada, on Saturday night. He described the incident as “serious, but it did not affect any more delicate parts”.

Lula also described the accident as “nonsense” that he committed. He said it will take three or four days to assess “what damage the crash caused.”

The president stated that everything that involves the head is strong and needs attention. “I had an accident here, but it was stupid of me. It was serious, but it didn’t affect any more delicate parts. I’m taking care of it, because anything in the head is very strong”,

“So, I’m waiting, because the doctors say I have to wait at least three or four days for them to know what damage the crash caused,” he added.

The accident caused Lula to cancel his trip to the Brics meeting in Russia, on medical advice. Despite this, he continues working in Brazil. Chancellor Mauro Vieira will represent Brazil.

Lula fell in the bathroom of the Palácio da Alvorada, hit the back of his head and needed five stitches due to the accident. He was advised to cancel long trips, but has since been released to go home.

He is also released to work and left Palácio da Alvora this Monday. He received the Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, and the special advisor to the presidency, Celso Amorim, for the meeting.

A photo of the meeting was published on the president’s pages. “Meeting between President Lula and Minister Padilha and special advisor Celso Amorim, this morning at Palácio do Alvorada”.

Alexandre Padilha told the press after the meeting that Lula did not lose consciousness or become disoriented after the fall, and that he sought help himself.

“I want to send a message of reassurance, that the trip was canceled due to medical orders to maintain this observation, to avoid a very long trip, I was going to work in a different time zone,” said Padilha.
