An unidentified close source told the Daily Mail that the singer’s friends were planning an intervention if the singer relapsed.

Liam Payne, who died on the 16th after falling from the balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, had sought drug rehabilitation, according to information revealed by a close friend to the American newspaper Daily Mail. The unidentified source explained that friends were worried about the singer’s situation, who must have relapsed into drug abuse.

“Liam had been clean for weeks. He had been to rehab more than once. He had undergone treatment in the United Kingdom and California”, said the boy close to the former member of the band One Direction.

Liam’s friend continued to the Daily Mail: “He had recently been taken in by a new psychiatrist in Florida. Everyone around Liam hoped he was on the road to recovery.” He regretted the relapse and informed that his friends were planning an intervention if this happened.

The source, who preferred not to be identified, highlighted that Liam Payne was not using any type of drug before checking into the accommodation. The man believes that someone started taking drugs to Liam at the hotel.

“He went to Argentina to renew his visa for the USA, where he had to undergo medical examinations because of his history with alcohol and drugs. The test results were good”, he highlighted.

Two hotel employees are being investigated. According to investigations, they had taken narcotics to the singer in soap boxes, which were found by police officers on the bedroom table.

According to ABC News, traces of crack, cocaine and methamphetamine were found in the artist’s toxicology test, as well as pink cocaine, ketamine, benzodiazepine and MDMA.

Authorities also reportedly found an improvised aluminum tube for drug consumption inside Liam’s room.

The artist was found dead at the Casa Sur hotel, in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. According to the Argentine newspaper La Nación, the pop star died after falling from the third floor of the hotel, located in the Palermo neighborhood.

Officers from Police Station 14B received a report of an aggressive man, possibly under the influence of drugs. A team from the Emergency Medical Care System (Same) was at the scene and confirmed the death. Head of the Emergency Medical Care System (Same) in Argentina, Alberto Crescenti reported that the artist suffered a fall of thirteen to fourteen meters and there was no possibility of resuscitation.

“At 5:04 p.m. [local]via 911, we were alerted about a person who was in the inner courtyard of the Casa Sur hotel. A few minutes later, a local SAME team arrived and confirmed the death of this man, who we later learned was a member of a musical group,” he explained to the TN portal.

In a solo career since 2016, Liam Payne gained notoriety with British boy band One Direction. The group, in addition to Liam, included Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan. The band started in 2010 and has 42.3 million monthly listeners on Spotify even seven years after the breakup.

The singer is survived by his 7-year-old son Bear Payne, the result of his relationship with Cheryl Cole.
