The body of Liam Payne, who died on Wednesday, 16, will be handed over to his family for repatriation only after pending clinical trials are completed. The information was obtained by the North American CNN through a source in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where the Briton died.
The authorities’ expectation is that the tests will end during the week; however, they do not rule out the possibility of concluding the results this weekend.
On Friday, the 18th, Geoff Payne, father of the former One Direction member, arrived in the Argentine city. According to CNN, authorities allowed him to visit his son’s body in the morgue.
He also went to the CasaSur hotel, where Liam had been staying – and where he fell from the third floor – but was not allowed to visit the room due to the investigation. He could see a similar room on another floor.
Geoff also starred in a moving scene when he visited an improvised altar, set up by fans, in front of the hotel. In silence, he admired the photographs, flowers, letters and candles. He thanked the fans present for their support.
An autopsy of the body showed that Payne, 31, died as a result of multiple injuries suffered in the fall from the third floor.
According to the official report, the head injuries were enough to lead to the singer’s death. Toxicological tests are still pending.
Local authorities continue to investigate the death to reconstruct Payne’s final hours.
Other guests interviewed by the British press and Argentine police reported the presence of an “aggressive man who may be under the influence of drugs and alcohol” in the hotel.
