The royal couple has confirmed stops in Ilhéus and Itacaré. Queen is the daughter of a Brazilian mother

Next month, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Sílvia of Sweden disembark in Brazil for an official visit, with confirmed stops in Ilhéus and Itacaré, in the south of Bahia.

Alô Alô Bahia found that the Swedish monarchs’ itinerary also includes visits to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

The Ministry of Communications has already authorized the use of radiocommunication equipment by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden during the royal stay, as published in the Official Gazette of the Union. In Bahia, disembarkation is scheduled for Jorge Amado Airport, in Ilhéus, followed by a direct air transfer to Itacaré, a special destination for the couple, who have already visited the place on other occasions.

Itacaré and Ilhéus occupy a special place in the hearts of Swedish royalty, with southern Bahia described by the couple as a true tropical paradise.

In 2022, the couple was already on Bahian soil, when they went to Vitória da Conquista to visit the Protected Listening Complex, aimed at taking special statements from children and adolescents who suffered or witnessed some type of violence, in accordance with Federal Law No. 14,341 /2017.

On the occasion, the royal visitors visited not only the Complex’s facilities, but also the functioning of the Integrated Center for the Rights of Children and Adolescents and spoke with professionals who work for the bodies that are part of the structure, as well as with authorities from the justice regarding the work carried out on site. The visit was also accompanied by municipal managers and councilors.

“I left this visit very satisfied. I have been following, albeit from a distance, the excellent results of our partnership. I’m happy to see and know that this space responds to a concern I have when reflecting on the care of children who are victims of violence and who must be protected throughout their care journey. Today, I understand that it is possible for the public policy, security and justice system to act as a single system, fully protecting children and young people”, declared the queen.

Born in the German city of Heidelberg during Nazism, Queen Silvia is the result of the union of Brazilian Alice Soares de Toledo, from a traditional São Paulo family, and German Walther Sommerlath.

From the age of 4 to 14, she lived with her family in São Paulo, where she studied at one of the most renowned schools, Visconde de Porto Seguro, with German education, located at the time in Praça Roosevelt, the center of the capital. Queen Silvia speaks Portuguese fluently and has maintained a strong connection with Brazilian culture.

Silvia had to face accusations that her father had been a collaborator of Hitler and the Nazi regime. She mobilized historians and lawyers to research the past. Professionals discovered that Sommerlath was innocent. He had even helped a Jewish businessman escape from Germany to Brazil.

The noblewoman made several official visits to Brazil, where she maintains an institution that cares for children, in addition to financially supporting other projects focused on childhood well-being. He has already donated millions of euros to these actions in the land where he feels at home. As she herself says, she has a “Brazilian heart”.

The royal couple has been together for 49 years. They met at the Olympic Games in Munich, Germany, in 1972. And the Queen has publicly said that it was love at first sight. “Suddenly, I felt someone looking at me very close, when I turned around, he was looking at me through binoculars.
