Inmet issues intense rain alert for Bahia and 14 other states

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued an intense rain warning for 15 states, including Bahia, with a chance of rain and intense winds. The yellow alert – the lowest on the institution’s scale – is valid until this Monday (21) and the degree of severity is of potential danger.
More than 50 cities in Bahia will be affected. They are located in the Far West, Central South, Central North and São-Franciscano Valley of Bahia. The municipalities of Bom Jesus da Lapa, Brumado, Campo Formoso, Guanambi, Irecê, Juazeiro, Luís Eduardo Magalhães, Morro do Chapéu, Piatã and Xique-Xique make up the list (access the full list below).
The forecast is for rain between 20 and 30 mm/h or up to 50 mm/day – the common average being 18 km/h – and intense winds of 40-60 km/h. There is a low risk of electricity cuts, falling tree branches, flooding and electrical discharges.
In Brazil, the areas affected will be: Western Tocantins, Southeast Piauí, Vale do Acre, São José do Rio Preto, São Francisco Pernambucano, Southeast Pará, Northeast Mato Grosso, East Mato Grosso do Sul, Northwest Espírito Santo, Campinas , Vale do Mucuri, North of Minas, South/Southwest of Minas, North Center of Mato Grosso do Sul, East of Tocantins, North of Mato Grosso, Southwest of Pará, Southeast of Mato Grosso, North of Goiano, East of Rondoniense, South of Maranhão, Center Amazonense, Southwest Piauí, East Goiano, Central-North Piauí, Southwest Amazonense and Araraquara.
The rain should also hit Araçatuba, Jequitinhonha, Far West Bahia, South Fluminense, Vale do Paraíba Paulista, South Goiano, South Amazonense, North Coast Espírito Santo, Piracicaba, Sertão Pernambucano, Bauru, Northwest Goiano, East Maranhense, North Amazonense, Vale São-Franciscano da Bahia, Centro Norte Bahia, Ribeirão Preto, Centro Sul Baiano, Macro Metropolitana Paulista, Madeira-Guaporé, Vale do Rio Doce, Sul Baiano, Triângulo Mineiro/Alto Paranaíba, Centro-South Mato Grosso, Vale do Juruá, Centro Maranhense, Northwest of Minas and Metropolitan Rio de Janeiro.
The advice is, in case of gusts of wind, not to take shelter under trees, as there is a slight risk of falling and electrical discharges, in addition to not parking vehicles near transmission towers and advertising signs. It is also recommended to avoid using electronic devices plugged into the socket. In the event of an emergency, it is possible to call the Civil Defense (telephone 199) and the Fire Department (telephone 193).
