The vice-president of União Brasil, ACM Neto, in a press conference this Sunday (27), in Camaçari, showed confidence in the victory of Flávio Matos (União Brasil) in the race for mayor.

During his speech, Neto highlighted the difficulties faced by the campaign, which, according to him, went beyond a conventional electoral dispute.

“We had to compete against the opposing candidate. We had to compete against a system, against the state government machinery, against the police operation carried out by our opponents and we also had to compete against criminal factions, against organized crime. But the people of Camaçari are demonstrating this Sunday that they are free, that they believe in their own future”, said Neto.

The former mayor of Salvador projected the victory of Flávio Matos: “There is only one name for Camaçari, which is its people, and I am sure that, at the end of this day, we will be celebrating the victory of Flávio Matos 44. Flávio He will be a great mayor for Camaçari.”

Neto criticized the environment of violence and intimidation that, according to him, marked the election. He reported serious episodes, such as a police approach to Flávio Matos’ office and the invasion of the political space of a supporter of the candidate. “Is it reasonable for a lady to be approached on the street and, because she is wearing a blue shirt, forced to take it off and leave her bra on? Is it reasonable for a candidate to be prevented from entering certain locations because the drug boss decides who enters and who doesn’t?”

The politician also mentioned the impact of criminal factions on the campaign. “The one who didn’t enter was Flávio Matos. Our opponent entered. On the eve of the election, the political space of a Flávio supporter was invaded by armed men. The entire press showed the images, I’m not inventing anything”, he declared.

Neto also asked the authorities to pay attention to prevent similar situations from recurring in the next elections. “I hope that the Electoral Public Ministry and the authorities stay alert. What we are experiencing here in Camaçari is worrying. […] In 2024, the situation has reached an alarming level, and we need to avoid this in the next disputes.”
