Donations can be made to the Hospital do Oeste Milk Bank

A campaign carried out by Hospital Geral do Oeste (HO), located in Barreiras, aims to replenish the stock of the institution’s milk bank, which is in critical condition. Breast milk is intended for babies born prematurely and admitted to the ICU or Neonatal Semi-Intensive Care Unit.

Donations can be made at the unit from Monday to Thursday, from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm; and Friday, from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. Women who cannot go to the hospital can choose to collect at home. “For donors residing in Barreiras, we can send a team to their home, with all the instructions and materials necessary to make the donation at home”, said the coordinator of the HO milk bank, Núbia Maia.

To donate, you must present the pregnant woman’s card, which contains tests considered important for registration. If the donor does not have these tests, the hospital laboratory is available to perform them. More information can be obtained by calling: (77) 3612-9497.

Linked to the state government, the HO is administered by Obras Sociais Irmã Dulce (Osid) and has the capacity to collect up to 15 liters per week. All donated breast milk goes through a pasteurization process and is stored to meet internal food demands.
