Accustomed to big games in Germany, Hansi Flick, coach of the Catalan club, placed the clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona, scheduled for this Saturday, at the Santiago Bernabéu, at a very high level in a press conference held this Friday. “We have a lot of rivalry in Germany, but there’s nothing like ‘El Clasico’. I can’t wait.”
Ready for the most anticipated clash of the tournament, the German coach demonstrated that he is prepared to play his first match against the Meringue team with the mission of maintaining the isolated lead. “We have our ideas and philosophies.”
Based on the good performances his players have been performing this season, he didn’t want to make excuses. He did not complain about having one less day of rest compared to his rival (Real Madrid played in the Champions League on Tuesday while the Catalan club entered the field on Wednesday), he ruled out fearing the refereeing and focused his line of reasoning on confrontation against the merengue team.
“To be honest, I don’t think much (about off-field factors). We want to play and I’m sure we will have a great match. My players are doing very well. What we need is all (the athletes) performing at their best,” said the technical. Despite the objective tone, Flick admitted a certain anxiety about facing his opponent. “I can see that we are looking forward to the game, I am too,” he declared.
Barcelona leads the Spanish Championship with 27 points in ten rounds. The team is still coming off a great result in the midweek clash in the Champions League, when they beat Bayern Munich 4-1. However, the German coach remained focused.
“It’s good to be praised, but my jobs are the results. When we win it’s good and the opposite is bad. We focus on how we want to play and the connection is admirable (between the athletes). That’s why we play football and give the maximum for victory.”
Flick also stated that his team is already prepared to face the tournament’s runner-up. “In each game you adapt. Now we will adapt to Real Madrid. As in all matches, there are always the most dangerous rival players. We did well in the victory over Bayern Munich, but we are aware that we always have something to improve “, said the coach.
