The shooting that suspended bus circulation on Rua Teodolino Macêdo Campos, in Cajazeiras XI, this Tuesday (22), is not something common for those who live there. On the contrary, when consulted by the report, residents reported a situation of fear and surprise that began just a week ago. The violent events began when drug traffickers from the Katiara (KT) faction, who operate in neighboring locations, began to invade the streets of the neighborhoods with gunshots and screams.
The occurrence in the early hours of this Tuesday, however, left even more evident marks. On the walls of several houses, the criminals painted the acronym KT, the number 7 and a pentagram, all used to mention the faction. On home owners, the marks are of pure fear. This is because even gated communities, with gates that close off the streets, were invaded by bandits who jumped walls, damaged structures and slammed gates, which terrified residents.
Crying, a resident, who cannot be identified out of fear, says that she had to go to the back of the house with her family to hide when the KT criminals arrived shooting. “They went up at midnight. When they knocked on the gate, the whole house shook. They managed to get in and out of the condominium, using the gate itself. Then, the shots started really loud because they were close. Everyone went to the back of the house protect ourselves. That didn’t happen here, we are desperate”, he reports.

The roads crossing Rua Teodolino Macêdo Campos, the main street in the region, were used as access to the site and ended up being the main target of the bandits’ actions. The report had access to audio recorded by residents during the invasion. In addition to gunshots, the bandits shouted all the time, as said by another resident who, frightened by the criminal action, prefers not to identify herself for fear of suffering reprisal.
“There was a lot of shooting, it went on for about half an hour, but we could hear them scream when it stopped for a bit. At the time, one said he didn’t want any problems with the resident or neighbors, but he was after two people whose names I don’t remember now. At the time, it was all very scary and I couldn’t really notice in the middle of the shooting and those moments when they were screaming. They kept saying ‘where are you’ all the time on the street”, explains the resident, showing that the KT members were looking for specific people.

Due to the situation, the region woke up without bus traffic between 4 am and 7 am this Tuesday (22) due to the lack of security for bus workers and passengers. In a note, the Salvador Mobility Secretariat (Semob) reported that service was suspended, highlighting that the lines continued to the roundabout and the base was in a region known as Point 11. Due to the situation, the Military Police of Bahia (PM ) reinforced policing in the area. During the early hours of the morning, agents were called due to the shooting, but were unable to locate the suspects.
