AtlasIntel research released this Saturday, 26th, the eve of the second round, shows federal deputy André Fernandes (PL) numerically ahead in the dispute for mayor of Fortaleza, capital of Ceará. The parliamentarian records 50.5% of valid votes -excluding blank and invalid votes-, while the president of the Legislative Assembly of Ceará, Evandro Leitão (PT), appears with 49.5%. Considering the margin of error of two percentage points plus or minus, both are technically tied.
The survey interviewed 1,599 voters, aged 16 and over, between October 20th and 25th. The survey has 95% reliability. The research was registered with the Electoral Court under protocol CE-08144/2024.
In total votes, according to the institute, Fernandes appears with 49.8% and Leitão, with 48.9%. 0.9% of those interviewed said they would vote blank or null, and 0.4% responded that they didn’t know.
This is one of the most polarized elections between supporters of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in the Northeast. At stake is the most populous city in the entire Northeast – the only region in which Bolsonaro was defeated by Lula in the votes and which ended up being crucial to the PT victory in 2022.
Another nationally renowned name trying to boost Fernandes’ candidacy is federal deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG). Last Thursday, the parliamentarian took part in scenes that mixed a kind of “cult” and mockery alongside Fernandes. Wearing t-shirts with the phrase “Bloco do 22”, the two were filmed dancing to the sound of the jingle “bye, bye, PT”, in an axé rhythm, while fireworks exploded in the crowd. In another video, Nikolas leads the “Our Father” prayer, with the choir of voters continuing the prayer with their cell phone lights on.
