Saturday’s Gre-Nal is far from over. After the game, as the Grêmio players went down to the Beira-Rio changing rooms, many Inter fans teased the Grêmio fans after a 1-0 victory when Caíque passed by with a ball of tape in his hands. The object ended up thrown towards the rivals and hitting an 11-year-old child. The victim’s father filed a police report and the goalkeeper used his social media to apologize and say that he had no intention of hitting the minor.

“Coming here to clarify something that happened last Saturday in the Gre-Nal classic. First of all, I would like to apologize to the family, to the child as well. I was wrong to throw a little ball of tape. But I had no intention of playing, of directing the a child,” Caíque said in a video on Instagram

“I have a 6-year-old son and I would never want, like many people are saying, that I attacked a child. I was wrong to throw that little ball, but I had no intention of targeting a child”, he explained. “Just passing by to clarify this, to apologize to the family, to the child. I’ve already contacted the father, sent a message, asked my managers to send a message, lawyer too. Just to clarify and say that there was no aggression. I made a mistake in throwing the ball, unfortunately it hit a child, but just passing by to clarify what happened.”

Grêmio had issued an official note on Monday repudiating a possible act of racial insult that would have been committed by an Internacional fan towards the Grêmio fans during Gre-Nal’s trip to the locker room. But he didn’t explain what it would be. The goalkeeper did not complain about racism.

“Grêmio became aware of an image taken last Saturday, during the classic, which shows a fan of the opposing fans making gestures towards the Tricolor fans that could constitute the crime of racial insult. During Sunday, the organization ‘Discrimination Observatory Racial no Futebol’ stated that it will monitor developments in the case. Grêmio defends that the fact be investigated by the competent bodies, so that it can be properly clarified, and any appropriate measures can be taken”, said the club’s statement.

Inter responded, asking for action after Caíque’s “aggression”. “Inter has already forwarded, at the request of the civil police, the images from security cameras for the investigation. According to the incident, a child was hit with an object made of adhesive tape thrown at the exit of the field. The CBF is also monitoring the incident. Thus Once they learned of the fact, Inter and Brio welcomed father and son and provided the necessary assistance.”
