Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, the star is the son of singer Bernadette San Pedro Bayot and percussionist Peter Hernandez, and inherited his father’s given name: Peter Gene Hernandez.
But where did the name Bruno Mars come from?
As the singer himself said in interviews at the beginning of his career, he adopted the nickname “Bruno” under the influence of his father, who thought he looked like the famous American fighter Bruno Sammartino. “I think I was a chunky baby, so my dad started calling me that,” he said.
As for the surname “Mars”, which in Portuguese means Mars, the artist revealed that he chose it as a joke, since he received compliments from women who said he was “from another world”.
“I felt like my name didn’t have a special ring yet, so I thought, ‘I think I’m from Mars,'” joked the singer, giving rise to the name of the showmen who is currently one of the best artists in the world.
