The tenth edition of Afro Fashion Day will feature Feira da Sé to compose and enrich the program of the blackest catwalk in Brazil this Friday (01). The space will bring together 50 Afro-entrepreneurs, covering crafts, gastronomy and clothing, as well as cultural activities. The event will take place at Praça 2 de Julho, in Largo do Campo Grande, with the opening of the Fair from 11 am, continuing until the parade, scheduled for 6 pm.

At Feira da Sé, original fashion creations will be presented, including pieces from designers who will be in the show, such as clothes and accessories from the brands “Tá Bom Pra Você” and Rey Vilas Boas. In addition, the space will have a food area, where visitors will find options for lunch and quick snacks, as well as craft beers and sweets. The initiative, carried out by the ACM Institute with support from the newspaper Correio and Rede Bahia, aims to promote the visibility of black creators.

“This movement of occupying public spaces by Feira da Sé, in favor of conscious and social use, favors local entrepreneurship and highlights the relevance of Afro Fashion Day in the city’s calendar of events, since the initiative celebrates the protagonism and cultural identity of black people”, highlights Claudia Vaz, director of the ACM Institute.

The Feira da Sé program includes children’s turban and afro painting workshops, from 11am to 12pm, 1pm to 2pm and 3pm to 4pm; wearing an adult turban, from 12pm to 1pm, 2pm to 3pm and 4pm to 5pm. For those interested in manual techniques, there will be an origami workshop, which will take place from 12pm to 1pm, 2pm to 3pm and 4pm to 5pm. In addition, the afro braiding workshop will also be held at the same times as the afro painting workshop.

From 1pm to 4pm, writer Celina Bezerra will tell stories to children. “Charles, the autistic star”, one of the author’s books, is among those that will be read to the public. The work deals with diversity, a theme aligned with AFD concepts, which speaks out against ableism. There will also be an autograph session and a sketch and turban workshop as part of the children’s program.

Celebrating a trajectory that began in 2015, AFD 2024 opens the month of awareness on November 1st and has as its edition theme: Music – Rescuing roots and elevating voices. Free public access will be provided exclusively through the main entrance to the square (in front of the Castro Alves Theater).

Throughout the day, around eight thousand people are expected to attend the most diverse fashion exhibitions, in accordance with the expectations presented by the newspaper CORREIO, organizer of the event, honoring the aim of giving visibility to models, Bahian stylists and black designers linked to the world fashion.

Afro Fashion Day is a project by the newspaper Correio with sponsorship from Avon and Bracell, support from CAIXA, Shopping Barra, Salvador Bahia Airport and Wilson Sons, and institutional support from Sebrae and Salvador City Hall.
