Family asks friends to wear white for funeral of former child actor killed in Trancoso
Wake and burial will take place in a cemetery in the Botafogo neighborhood, in Rio de Janeiro

The wake and burial of the body of former child actor João Rebello Fernandes, who died at the age of 45 in Bahia, will take place this Sunday (27), at the São João Batista cemetery, in Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro. João was shot dead in Trancoso, Porto Seguro, where he lived, on Thursday night (24).
According to the schedule released by family members, the wake will take place from 10am, and the burial will take place at 1pm. “Preferably wear white clothes”, says the report. “For friends who can’t attend, tune in to vibration.”
João was the nephew of director Jorge Fernando and had a career in soap operas as a child, participating in titles such as “Cambalacho” and “Vamp”. He currently worked as a DJ and was known by the nickname Vunje.
João’s mother, Maria Rebello, posted an outburst on social media the day after the crime, stating that her son was killed by mistake: “I can’t close my eyes! Thank you for your words, I’m awake alone and Carol went to Trancoso! Terra violent! They killed by mistake, they mixed up the car! He was living in a city where it seemed like a peaceful life with his wife Karine playing, celebrating with her sweetness, my mourning will be eternal”, he wrote.

Music producer and DJ João Rebello Fernandes, 45, was waiting for a friend when he was executed in Praça da Independência, on Thursday night (24). He was in a car when two men on a motorcycle approached and shot him at close range. The victim died at the scene. The Civil Police are investigating the authorship and motivation of the crime.
“Vunje was waiting for our friend to make a technical visit to a party space that would take place on November 9th. He was standing in front of a supermarket,” a close friend told CORREIO.
In a statement, the Civil Police of Bahia states that the case is investigated by the 1st Territorial Police Station of Porto Seguro. Guides for forensic examination and removal of the body were issued, while steps are taken to identify the perpetrator and clarify the motivation for the crime.

João Rebello was the son of actress and director Maria Rebello, and also the nephew of TV director Jorge Fernando, who died in 2019. One of the most notable roles in his career was in the soap opera Bebê a Bordo (1988).
He also stood out in productions such as Vamp (1991), Deus nos Acuda (1992) and Cambalacho (1986). Away from TV since “Zazá” in 1997, he participated in Globo’s ‘Divertics’ in 2013.
