A potentially dangerous extratropical cyclone will pass through southern Brazil this week, according to meteorology company Climatempo. Storms and strong winds are expected on Thursday, 24th, in all Southern States – especially in Rio Grande do Sul.
Climatempo says that, from Wednesday the 24th, there should already be a “sharp drop in atmospheric pressure” over the north of Argentina, heading towards the formation of a cold front and an extratropical cyclone between Uruguay and Rio Grande do Sul. South on Thursday.
According to the meteorology company, the predicted cyclone has attracted the attention of meteorologists because it has the potential to reach very low atmospheric pressure in its center, below 1,000 hectopascals (hPa).
Experts consider that atmospheric pressure centers with 1,000 hPa or less have greater potential to cause storms with very strong winds.
This Tuesday, the 22nd, the three southern states already see an increase in the tendency of rain showers. This precipitation is expected to intensify throughout the week, as will the cold weather. The minimum is 18ºC and the maximum is 23ºC in Porto Alegre on Friday, and 16ºC and 20ºC on Saturday.
In the Southeast, a cold front moves away from Espírito Santo during this Monday, 21st, but many areas of clouds and rain continue to spread over the territory of Espírito Santo, Rio De Janeiro and Minas Gerais, and there may be rain showers.
“São Paulo is the state that has the least rain this Monday”, says Climatempo. But, on Tuesday, conditions for rain showers increase, with a risk of storms until Friday. The State has already faced storms in the last two weekends, including disruptions caused by the lack of electricity. Around 3.1 million properties were left without electricity in the metropolitan region – the blackout lasted days for some properties.
In the Midwest, areas of instability lose strength. However, warm moist air continues over the region, maintaining cloud formation conditions throughout the week.
Rain showers with lightning should continue in the afternoon and evening in all states in the region, but less frequently than on the weekend. In Mato Grosso do Sul, the risk of storms tends to increase on Thursday due to the influence of the extratropical cyclone.
In the Northeast, a mass of dry air should predominate over almost the entire region, inhibiting the formation of large clouds and the occurrence of rain. And in the North, the weather is dry and hot, but there may be rain showers in Pará, Amapá and Roraima, as well as in areas of the Center-West and south of Amazonas, Acre and Rondônia.
