Hero of Vitória in the triumph over Red Bull Bragantino, in the last round of the Brasileirão, striker Everaldo does not consider himself a red-black “savior of the country”, but wants to be an important player in the final stretch of the Brazilian Championship.
During an interview, this Thursday (24), at Toca do Leão, the player celebrated the achievement, but shared the merit with his teammates and the coaching staff. The goal was important in taking the Bahian club out of the Serie A relegation zone.
“I don’t consider myself a hero. I was just the athlete who scored the winning goal, but I think the hero is the whole group, the coach, the whole committee, because they have given us strength. They have given us their best on a daily basis so that we can arrive on the field and be prepared to deliver results. Hero is the whole group. I hope it can arrive on Saturday and we can continue contributing”, he began.
By the way, Everaldo has a good reason to maintain his goalscoring flair. This Saturday (26), Vitória hosts Fluminense, the club for which the striker gained prominence between 2018 and 2019. If he scores again, the player will enforce the “ex’s law” at Barradão. The duel is still a direct confrontation in the Serie A table.
“I hope to make the law work this Saturday, but I don’t think about it, because I know that what I have to do is work. A goal we know is a consequence of work, it comes naturally. My only thought is to be able to play good matches, donate myself on the field, give my best and be able to help Vitória. Goals will happen naturally”, he added.
During the interview, a relaxed atmosphere took over the red and black environment when striker Osvaldo entered the press room and, in the best journalist style, asked what his teammate’s feeling was after scoring a goal again. Without hesitation, Everaldo answered his friend’s question:
“A very good emotion, a very good feeling. I hadn’t scored for a while and that bothers me, but thank God I was able to score the goal and it’s an incredible feeling to be able to celebrate in front of the Vitória fans and, especially, in the goal where the Unbeatables are”, he explained.
Osvaldo’s question was not surprising. In addition to helping Leão in the fight against the relegation zone, the goal against Red Bull Bragantino had a special meaning for Everaldo, who was sidelined for five months due to an injury. A difficult period in the athlete’s career.
“One of the most difficult moments was in the Bahia finals, where I wanted to be able to help my teammates and I wasn’t ready to play. Also at the start of the Brazilian Championship, because I came to watch all the games and, when you’re on the sidelines and can’t help, it bothers you a lot. Today I’m fine and ready to play. I have been doing my best so that I can make up for the time I lost due to this injury”, he analyzed.
Despite the encouraging phase he is currently experiencing, Everaldo was only on the fence about his title. At this point, the attacker prefers to leave the decision in the hands of coach Thiago Carpini.
“About being a starter, I don’t know. It largely depends on Professor Carpini, he who is there every day, who knows what is best. Whether it’s you or another athlete who will play, it doesn’t matter. The most important thing is that we can do our best and be able to help Vitória achieve results”, he concluded.
