“The decision, which restores his political rights, understands that the proceedings against Dirceu had the real objective of reaching President Luís Inácio Lula da Silva, which demonstrates the breach of partiality in the actions. The annulment meets the request of the former minister’s defense , which requested the extension of the decision of the 2nd Panel of the Supreme Court that considered the decisions of Lava Jato and former judge Sergio Moro in cases involving President Lula to be partial”, adds the lawyer.
Minister Gilmar Mendes, Federal Supreme Court (STF), annulled this Monday, 28th, all procedural acts of former judge Sérgio Moro against former minister José Dirceu within the scope of Operation Lava Jato. The universal reversal of the sentences against José Dirceu adds to a series of Lava Jato decisions annulled by the STF.
José Dirceu was chief minister of the Civil House during President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s first term, leaving the position in the wake of the Mensalão scandal. The former federal deputy plans a return to public life in the 2026 general elections.
