On Monday afternoon (21), the court ordered the temporary arrest of the technical coordinator of the PCS Lab Saleme laboratory, Adriana Vargas dos Santos, during a hearing at the Benfica Custody Center, in the north of the city.
Adriana was arrested yesterday (20), at home, in the municipality of Belford Roxo, in Baixada Fluminense. Police officers from the Consumer Police Department (Decon) seized three computers and four cell phones from the residence.
The technique is identified by the police as responsible for ordering the antigen checking protocol, which is daily, to be carried out weekly, with the aim of obtaining more profits for the laboratory. Adriana denied the accusations, as she had already done in her first statement, given as a witness at the beginning of last week.
Two donors had incorrect HIV reports signed by the laboratory, which was responsible for testing before the organs were sent for transplants in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Donors were considered negative when, in fact, they were positive for the virus. As a result, six patients were infected with HIV as a result of transplants.
In addition to Adriana, doctors Walter Vieira, partner at the PCS Saleme laboratory, technician Ivanilson Fernandes dos Santos and Jacqueline Iris Bacellar de Assis, laboratory employees, have already been temporarily detained.
