A councilor from Queimadas, in the Northeast of Bahia, died after being involved in a traffic accident on Saturday night (26) in Itiúba, in the North Center of the state. José Ariel Rodrigues de Oliveira, 43 years old, was driving a motorcycle, but lost control and collided with the back of another motorcycle.

The politician was taken to the Itiúba Municipal Hospital and was later transferred to the Petrolina Trauma Hospital, where he died. The incident was recorded by the victim’s brother, at the Senhor do Bonfim Territorial Police Station, this Sunday morning (27)

José Ariel, better known as Ariel da Martins, was a councilor and was Secretary of Infrastructure in Queimadas. Ariel was also a businessman and event producer. He was elected this year by the MDB party with 1,077 votes. The city hall published a note lamenting the loss.

Residents also offered their condolences. “Today the city is in mourning!!! The happy, supportive person, colleague and friend he was will be remembered”, wrote a resident.
